Data Engineer (AWS) | Long-term Project | Financial Services
The Opportunity
We are looking for a entrepreneurial Data Engineer to help build and shape a modern data platform within our client’s team focused on improving customer experience.
This is not a maintenance role. You will help design and build foundational data pipelines while also using that data to generate insights and enable new product features.
You will operate in a startup-like environment within a larger organisation – where exploration, ownership, and initiative are essential.
What You’ll Work On
- Designing and building data pipelines in AWS (batch & near real-time)
- Contributing to a scalable data lake architecture
- Working with large, financial datasets (e.g. transactions)
- Balancing platform-level engineering with team-specific insight solutions
- Collaborating across multiple data teams to avoid duplication and align standards
- Helping shape tooling and ways of working (still evolving)
Tech Environment
- AWS-native stack
- Glue
- Athena
- DynamoDB
- Step Functions
- PySpark (core language)
- AWS CDK (Infrastructure as Code)
- Go (used for service coordination – nice to have)
- Analytics tooling still evolving (Power BI vs in-app solutions)
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years building data pipelines
- Strong AWS experience (must-have)
- Experience building or contributing to a data lake from scratch
- PySpark expertise
- Experience with incremental vs batch processing
- Understanding of large-scale data handling
- Comfortable in an evolving, non-fixed environment
Nice to have:
- Financial services experience
- Experience in startup or scale-up environments
- Exposure to real-time data processing
